The medication known as Actos (also marketed as Actoplus Met and Duetact by Takeda Pharmaceuticals), coupled with diet and exercise, is used as a therapy to improve glycemic control for Type 2 diabetics. The drug has recently been linked to an increased risk in bladder cancer and can lead to an increased risk of serious side effects, such as blindness and macular edema.

If you or a loved one has been injured by the use of Actos (pioglitazone HCl), seeking representation from an experienced drug defects lawyer is in your best interests. At Aaron M. Levine & Associates, we have the trial experience and in-depth knowledge you need. Rely on Our Team for Competent and Assertive Representation

We have battled pharmaceutical companies for more than 50 years. We have knowledgeable legal and medical staff members who take a vigorous approach to protecting our clients' rights. We make certain that your best interests are protected at all times. Our experienced team handles the following type of Actos-related cases:

  • Actos and bladder cancer: In June 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (the FDA) issued public safety information about Actos. The findings, based on a five-year review of an ongoing 10-year safety study, associated an increased risk of bladder cancer with patients who used Actos for at least two years and in high dosages.
  • Actos side effects and diabetic macular edema: In addition to an increased risk of bladder cancer, the use of Actos can lead to an increased risk in diabetic macular edema, a serious condition where fluid can leak into the macula, causing it to swell and lead to blurry vision, and may eventually cause blindness. These symptoms can include specks of blood or spots in the eye, severely blurred vision, severe vision loss and more. Other side effects include increased risk of congestive heart failure, liver problems, fluid retention and more.
  • What is bladder cancer?: Learn more about what bladder cancer is and findings of a recent study conducted by the FDA.
